Excavations at the historic Franciscan Mission of San Xavier revealed an architectural complex which represented workshops related to the construction of the present mission building. The paucity of artifacts and fragility of construction indicate a temporary structure which may have been intentionally destroyed at the completion of the mission church ca. AD 1796
