The 1966–;67 Arizona State Museum Sonora-Sinaloa Project, directed by William W. Wasley, went into the field during an especially turbulent period for both American archaeology and American society generally. This personal account describes how the project unfolded and tries to place its activities, especially its work with the Trincheras culture, within the cultural and historical context of the times
