Based on flood stories from the lower Daugava neighborhoods in Riga, this article seeks to explore the relational capacity of environmental narrative. Reverberating ideas of recent posthumanist and new materialist origin, it aims to bring to the fore personal oral accounts as a source for phenomenological inquiry into how people experience the agency of matter and how they narratively build relationships with their environment. I argue that personal experience stories have a unique epistemological value for the study of relational ontologies in that they provide access to the subjectivities of people’s varied engagement with the environment
