In earlier studies, we discussed the psychological effects of mass societal traumas over several generations. To understand the non-verbal sharing and transmission of feelings and experiences we introduced the concept of the Transgenerational Atmosphere. This study, which is made pertinent by the period of COVID, focuses on the psychological impact of mass trauma on individuals. In this paper we discuss the interaction of the me (individual) and the we (intersubjective), we posit the existence of an intersubjective field, the Atmosphere which, like the Transgenerational Atmosphere, is born of the interaction between the intersubjective field of the me and the we in the here-and-now , and which enables the rapid non-verbal sharing of feelings and experiences. One important difference with the previous model is that by the Atmosphere, we refer not to a damaged psychic field, but to a constantly present psychic vehicle both surrounding the me and simultaneously penetrating it from within. Setting out from a healthy functioning, we examine how mass trauma changes the complex, sensitive relationship between me and we , and how mass trauma may lead to the dysfunctional working of the Atmosphere, to traumatization, and how this manifests itself
