Economic Models for the Manekweni Zimbabwe, Mozambique

Analysis of faunal remains from the Manekweni Zimbabwe in southern Mozambique indicates that the animal economy of the site's inhabitants was dominated by cattle-keeping. Cattle remains were particularly associated with the central enclosure: in peripheral areas of the site small stock and wild animals were more frequently represented. Discussion is presented of the implications of these discoveries both for the sociopolitical organization of the settlement and for the exploitation pattern of the Manekweni region
