Dans le cadre de l'histoire du developpement agricole de l'Afrique orientale, l'auteur propose un certain nombre d'observations sur les relations entre le systeme alimentaire et les institutions socio-politiques dans la region des Grands Lacs. Une prospection de l'histoire agricole entre le lac Victoria Nyanza et le rift du Kivu, entre 500 av.
