Une revue des classifications existantes des langues bantoues permet a l'A. de mettre en lumiere les questions qui se posent a propos des bases de ces classifications. Il souligne la necessite d'approches nouvelles pour aborder l'histoire du developpement des langues bantoues, approches qui ne soient pas basees sur les statistiques lexicales
