The August issue of the Mingbao yuekan (Mingpao monthly) carried a special supplement, written by Lin Yuan, entitled "Hong Kong Ruled by the Hongkongnese: Who Exactly Are the 'Hongkongnese'?"1 The supplement explored the status of the Hongkongnese from the multiple perspectives of culture, politics, country, and nation. It is well worth reading. Even this author, who had not read Mingbao yuekan for a long time, had to spend time perusing it so that I might edify myself with the worthy ideas of others
