One of the reasons for the success of the television series Aspirations lies in the creation of a character possessing the beauty and special qualities of the Oriental women—Liu Huifang. The joys and sorrows that revolve about her in the story and the emergence of her character's internal beauty touched the hearts of the audience. Did Liu Huifang enter thousands of people's homes or did many people find, in watching Huifang, an extremely uplifting side of life? Did Liu Huifang's kindness, honesty, forbearance and bad fortune arouse sympathy or did Liu Huifang embody virtues that were formerly a part of our national character? Is Liu Huifang part of us, or are we part of Liu Huifang? It really is true that I am part of you and you are part of me. This is why old women wipe the tears away one after another, old men continually strike the table, young people cannot stop shaking their heads and sighing, and everyone races home from work so that they can watch another episode
