The University of Sheffield has been teaching Dutch since 1948. After starting modestly as an option for students taking a degree in German, the University is now recognised worldwide for its expertise in Dutch Studies thanks to the work of a number of academics who specialise in Dutch language, culture, history and landscape. In 2008, the University of Sheffield celebrated 60 years of teaching Dutch with a special event attended by Nick Clegg MP and the Netherlands ambassador, Pim Waldeck, as well as 75 alumni and guests
