The second workshop of the project "Lifelong Learning for Equity and Social Cohesion: A New Challenge to Higher Education" had as its focus "Application of the new information and communication technologies (ICT) in lifelong learning." The workshop was held in Catania, Sicily (Italy), and was attended by forty-nine participants from thirty-one countries (delegates of member states, presenters, members of the Working Party on Lifelong Learning, member of the Higher Education and Research Committee of the Council of Europe and General Rapporteur), as well as observers from the European Commission, ESIB [National Unions of Students in Europe], and AAEN [Alternative Academic Educational Network]. The essential contributions from the representatives of the Council of Europe Secretariat, the Secretariat of the University of Catania, and the interpreters, together with constructive presentations and debate, led to a successful workshop
