This paper studies the historical development of Tijaniyyah Ṣūfī Order in Ilorin, Nigeria with particular reference to the major problems encountered by the Order in its efforts to survive. The problems in the form of different challenges and criticism which would have made the Order become obsolete came at different stages of its development. Eventually, it overcomes the problems and becomes a strong and formidable Order in Ilorin, Nigeria. The objective of the research is to examine the historical facts on the development of the Ṣūfī Order, which are generally not recognized. The method adopted in this research is both participatory observation and interpretative approach based on the disciplines of history and Sufism. The result of this research confirms that Tijaniyyah Ṣūfī Order in Ilorin continues to survive despite all forms of challenges, criticism and opposition
