The use of a medical CT X‐ray scanner (Siemens SOMATOM DR‐2) for non‐destructive investigation of dendrochronological samples of oak wood from archaeological objects is described. Investigation of modern samples shows that only tree rings broader than about 1 mm can be identified with certainty on the CT pictures.
