Hardangervidda is a mountain plateau in the central part of South Norway covering some 8000 km2 with an altitude of between 1000 and 1400 m a.s.l. The exploitation of Hardangervidda is of great significance to the surrounding local communities, mainly through hunting, fishing, and grazing of domestic animals. The main goal of the Hardangervidda Project for Interdisciplinary Cultural Research (HTK) has been to study this exploitation and to show how the resources of the mountain plateau have been fitted into the different patterns of subsistence. The Project is composed of researchers from the disciplines Quaternary Geology, Paleobotany, Paleozoology, Modern Zoology, Archaeology, Ethno‐History, Place‐Name Research
