Cypriote Base-Ring Ware (Hand-made) ceramics of the Late Bronze Age can be distinguished from other pottery types by their thin walls and sonorous qualities (called Metallic Ware). The exact geographic source of this pottery has not been identified archaeologically. Pétrographie microscope and electron microprobe studies indicate that the Base-Ring Ware is made from clays rich in ferric illite and micas. Mineral analysis indicates that the source of the clays must be limited to outcrops of the "Mamonia Formation" situated both in the Kyrenia Range to the North and in the Southwestern part of Cyprus (rocks of Triassic to Early Maestrichtian Age
