Major publications include Braving a New World: Cambodian (Khmer) Refugees in an American City (1996) and Negotiating Transnationalism (2001), a collection edited with Nancy Wellmeier and published by the American Anthropological Association's Committee on Refugees and Immigrants. Her present research interests include African arts, particularly West African arts, and particularly the changing role of women in the arts. She is currently doing research in Ghana on women who are practicing traditionally male arts
