Guidance medicine » was created in 1931 in Paris, thanks to Dr. Marie Parmentier-Béloux. After the Second World War, teams of doctors were trained in preventive and social medicine ; the goal was to support adolescents’ professional adaptation and individual growth. For more than a half-century, its successor, Dr. Robert Delmas, has been the central proponent of the society of medical guidance (both scholastic and professional). We base our work on his reports, in order to understand the stakes of this forgotten medical approach that has nonetheless played an essential role in the promotion of positive guidances. How have we shifted from medical exams at the start of professional guidance to health checkups, considered a resource in the actualization of life-long goals
