The Castelli Romani dialects display a distribution of perfective auxiliaries which is similar to other middle-Italian dialects and different from standard Italian. Data gathered from local speakers in Marino revealed interesting combinations related to reflexive transitive constructions and pronominal agreement. The relatively free occurrence of these forms suggests that a change is in progress. A comparison with similar forms present in 1920s documents further reinforces this view. Traditional sociolinguistic parameters do not seem to explain the distribution of these forms. In order to account for unsystematic language behaviour it is therefore desirable to introduce adjusted sociolinguistic parameters and to reconsider the notions (and the outcomes) of language convergence and language contact
