The Common Word document sets out an alternative to the Clash of Civilizations by asserting that Christianity and Islam are both founded on love of God and love of neighbor, and that those values provide fertile ground for creating a common life together. A three-part strategy is necessary: separating religious pluralists from religious totalitarians; understanding your own faith's narrative of pluralism, and finding the same in other faith traditions; and taking concrete action to make the Common Word ethic a reality. The Interfaith Youth Core uses this strategy to help young people start interfaith service projects
