It is suggested that unconscious phantasies make use of nonverbal symbols. Through the processes of the pre—conscious, these symbolic forms interact with discursive symbols of another order, transforming both unconscious and conscious thinking and symbolisation. Interpretations affect unconscious object relations through this transformation. The dream suggests in its discursive form specific unconscious phantasies.
