The artide discusses an important beginning of the feminist literary research in Sweden. The seminars started in Uppsala in 1967. The artide analyzes the aims of the sex role seminar and its activities duringthe first year 1967-68. Under personal management of Karin Westman Berg, experts held lectures on women's role in literature and the participants diseminated the new knowledge through artides in newspapers. An anthology, Sexroles in literature from the antiquity to the 1960s, was published the followingyear. The seminar was rnterdisciplinary with both women and men participating. The aim of the sex role seminar was twofold; to emphasize the importance of gender research and to offer a historical perspective on the current sex role debate. The seminar was the startingpoint of organized gender research in Sweden and it continued until 1977
