This article discusses the “jogo do bicho”, known at his beginnings in Rio de Janeiro, as an unproductive game, money waster and harmful to the country’s economy. It acquires a new direction when combined with the carnival development in Rio. In Brazil, et above all in Rio, the “jogo do bicho” takes part henceforth in a ludic culture related to money in the city’s economy
