O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma revisão crítica da literatura sobre os Estudos de Implementação de Políticas Públicas, de forma a contribuir para o desenvolvimento desta disciplina em Portugal. A relevância desta análise decorre de a implementação ser ainda pouco estudada no país, sobretudo numa vertente processual, mesmo sendo frequentemente apontada como das principais lacunas da governação pública nacional. O artigo começa por analisar os principais contributos das diferentes gerações de estudos e dos desenvolvimentos recentes da disciplina, concluindo com algumas pistas sobre como desenvolver investigação nesta área disciplinar
