This article shows how these shifts have changed the organization from the original coalition model to an unified party. With the purpose of studying its chance as a intermediate-party, several key features of its organization are analysed: the origin, the leadership, the electoral evolution and the organizational structure. Its evolution is a good example of a small party with an important role in the uruguayan political system: a question of supervivence in the middle of the ideological space
