The research sets out how police officers are being led to implement different forms of closer police/public interaction, promoted by national as well as local policies, in order better to manage their priorities. These are informed by knowing those validated by the policing model of crime fighting and have stressed repression, which has been the concrete operationalisation of these forms of working. This end, whose official statement is constantly being reworked, leads one to think that, though there may be change currently in police policies, this is not occurring at the level of ground level policing following a 'new' model, but in terms of methods and resources being placed at the disposition of the local police. This having been done, local police officers are continuing not to involve the public with their work, save in relation to concerns about effectiveness in relation to the development of 'proactive' methods
