Although political legitimacy is one of the most significant concepts in use in political science, there have been few attempts to validate measures of it. This report attempts to give evidence for the validity of a variant of a measure of the sense of political legitimacy proposed by Muller. Using various analysis techniques, the validity of this measure is assessed in a random sample of 201 University of Kentucky students. The results of the analysis are taken as evidence for the construct and discriminant validities of the measure and for assuming the truth of a central hypothesis in many theories of legitimacy
