The essays in this collection are both diverse in subject matter and rich in detail. Hence, I cannot possibly do justice to all of the arguments that they develop. Nor do I attempt to do so here. Instead, I focus my attention on the essays as a collection and, in doing so, make three general points about what might loosely be called democratic pragmatism. The first concerns the contributions that the essays make to the revival of pragmatism as a democratic mode of scientific inquiry. The second underscores the necessity of developing criteria for ensuring the democratic nature of pragmatic inquiry in practice. The third sketches a set of such criteria on the basis of insights provided by each of the essays and outlines a set of issues that still need to be resolved if pragmatism is to sustain the sort of democratic participation that it clearly requires
