This chapter attempts to review certain salient themes in the substantive literature on British politics by American political scientists. More diffidently, it also suggests some reasons for these American perceptions. It is as well to be clear that the paper does not cover certain areas. It does not compare American and British politics or discuss the extent to which one system has tried to learn or copy from the other. I have also left aside the interesting exercise of regarding the American writings on British politics as part of a larger American literature on British history, society and mores
