Journal Article ATROCITY PROPAGANDA AND THE IRISH REBELLION Get access JAMES MORGAN READ JAMES MORGAN READ This is a case study of atrocity propaganda of three centuries ago. It is significant for several reasons, including its relevance to horror stories broadcast during the World War and during recent incidents in Ethiopia, Spain, and the Far East. Dr. Read is Assistant Professor of History at the University of Louisville. He is a graduate of Dickinson College and received his doctorate from the University of Marburg. While in Germany studying under Wilhelm Mommsen, he became interested in atrocitystory technique, and later carried on further investigation in this field while serving as research assistant to Bernadotte Schmitt at the University of Chicago. He is now engaged upon an extensive analysis of atrocity stories in the World War.
