When Benjamin Franklin was a boy, his father took him on a walk to see various craftsmen at work, with the hope that this survey of occupations would enable him to choose the occupation he would enter. Today children can still see some kinds of workers on the street or in small shops, but they are much more likely to get acquainted with a wide variety of types of work from what they see on the television screen.
