Si comparten similitudes institucionales y sociolÃ3gicas, ¿cuál es la causa de la variaciÃ3n que presenta la fragmentaciÃ3n del sistema de partidos a nivel subnacional? En este artículo se propone que las dirigencias partidistas consideran el beneficio esperado y la expectativa de ganar alguna circunscripciÃ3n: en territorios con pocos recursos, un aumento del monto presupuestal es seguido por un incremento en la fragmentaciÃ3n; mientras que, donde los recursos son abundantes, un aumento del monto presupuestal es seguido por una disminuciÃ3n en la fragmentaciÃ3n. Utilizando una base de datos inédita y creada por el autor, la propuesta teÃ3rica se pone a prueba en tres municipios mexicanos inscritos al Programa Pueblos Mágicos: los resultados del modelo de regresiÃ3n ITSA son consistentes con la propuesta, pues ser pueblo mágico tiene un impacto en el NEP
