Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of socio-environmental responsibility and financial performance on the adoption of sustainable information technology practices and the effective management of electronic waste (e-waste) in organizations. By addressing a gap in the literature that rarely integrates these constructs, the research contributes to a broader understanding of sustainable IT behavior in the Brazilian context. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected through an online survey distributed to professionals registered on LinkedIn who work in Brazilian companies and multinational companies operating in Brazil. The data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), which enabled the evaluation of hypothesized relationships based on the literature. Results: The analysis results confirm that the financial results, whether associated with or not, the practices of Green IT, are enablers for the correct disposal of electronic waste by organizations, and in this context, these organizations are practicing socio-environmental responsibility. On the other hand, socio-environmental awareness without financial incentives or Green IT practices does not have the same effect; it does not lead to the correct disposal of electronic waste. Originality: Amid the growing global concern about the exponential increase in electronic waste, this study contributes by examining the interplay between financial performance, socio-environmental responsibility, Green IT practices, and e-waste management. The integrated perspective offered is especially relevant for emerging economies, like Brazil. Research limitations/implications: The randomness of the choice of respondents, since the emails were directed to the participants through the professional social network and contacts. However, this was necessary to mitigate the risk of obtaining multiple questionnaires from the same organization. Practical and managerial implications, as well as social and economic implications: The results suggest opportunities for managers to justify investments in sustainable technologies, thereby benefiting both the organization and society
