This entry looks at the development of sociology in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It focuses on several historical periods from the beginning of the twentieth century when sociology in Bosnia and Herzegovina started to be institutionalized. Concerning this process of institutionalization, it is necessary to stress the influence of different ideologies (socialism, nationalism, capitalism) that directly influenced this very new scientific discipline. Despite the fact that sociology, together with society itself, faced serious challenges, it managed to resist marginalization, and sociology continues to develop as a significant field in the social sciences
