Sports betting is the activity of staking money on a prediction of sporting results. The sports betting industry has experienced a large growth since the early twenty‐first century, especially after the mass adoption of Internet gambling. Professional sport competitions and teams have gained substantial financial benefits from partnering up with bookmakers. In essence, sports betting is a commercial product built on a balance. It has to be attractive enough for consumers to think that they can win money by using their sports knowledge but at the same time designed in a way to guarantee their long‐term monetary loss. Although it is a legal activity in most countries, sports betting faces reputational challenges in terms of risks for sports integrity (e.g., match fixing) and the potential addictiveness of betting products
