Carnival is a calendar festival preceding Christian Lent. An annual global event, carnival creates unique experiences which interrupt the routines of everyday life. Rituals, customs, and practices such as dancing, singing, and dressing up create a sense of belonging and symbolize community. Carnival is framed by spatial and temporal limits that render the collective effervescence possible
