This entry highlights racial differentials in physical health in the US adult population. Emphasis is placed on Black–White differences across common physical health indicators (e.g., self‐rated health, functional limitations, mortality) and measures of morbidity (e.g., prevalence of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, obesity). Major explanatory factors for Black–White health disparities (e.g., socioeconomic status, residential segregation, discrimination) are discussed. Less emphasis is given to physical health variations by gender and race
