This paper examines the aesthetic representation and criticism of mass tourism in Violette Leduc’s travel diary, Trésors à prendre (1960 Leduc, Violette. Trésors à prendre. Paris, Gallimard, 1960. [Google Scholar]). By analyzing a complex network of metaphors, I demonstrate that the author not only denounces the violent capitalist logic of the tourist industry, but also invents a new relationship to space that allows her to reject both the heteronormative norm imposed on women and the tourist norm imposed on space. Ultimately, I also argue that despite the dysphoric ending, Trésors à prendre represents a freeing experience for the author and offers readers an alternative way of traveling, one that understands the fragility of both nature and cultural heritage and tries to preserve them
