Cet article examine comment ont ete constitues les programmes d'enseignement de la sociologie dans les universites du Canada anglophone et celles des Etats-Unis. En plus du degre de morcellement ou d'unite des programmes six points sont analyses : importance relative de la theorie et de la methode ; place des methodes quantitatives ; accent mis sur les theories classiques ou contemporaines ; integration de la theorie dans les methodes ; relations entre les cours de theorie/methodologie et les questions sociologiques d'ordre plus pratique ; tension entre les cours de sociologie et les autres matieres du programme. Il s'avere que le programme canadien est de teneur plus « europeenne » en mettant l'accent sur les theories, plutot classiques, tandis que le programme americain privilegie davantage les methodes de recherche dans un contexte plus interdisciplinaire
