Rationalität bei Parsons

Wissenschaft und Wertorientierungen - diese zwei Bezugspunkte sind für die Parsonianische Theorie der Rationalität von besonderer Bedeutung. Wissenschaft fungiert als definierendes Paradigma und als primärer institutioneller Garant von Rationalität, problematisch ist daher in der Parsonianischen Handlungstheorie die geringe Unabhängigkeit des Begriffs der Rationalität von dem der Wissenschaft. Werte und Wertorientierungen stehen im Zentrum von Parsons Theorie des Sozialsystems. Das Verhältnis von rationalen Komponenten und Wertkomponenten im Handeln ist für Parsons zunächst eine Disjunktion; spätere Redefinitionen des Rationalitätskonzepts wählen eine konträre Alternative: die ursprünglich individualistisch konzipierte Rationalität wird zum sozialen Wertmuster und definiert als solches Typen sozialen Handelns
