This study uses comprehensive content analysis to explore the determinants of work-life balance (WLB) among married, urban, middle-class women as depicted in Bengali novels by Suchitra Bhattacharya set against the backdrop of late-20th-century urban Bengal.The findings illustrate that community standards, familial support systems, cultural and social norms, economic status, and personal agency all influence women's experiences and perceptions of WLB.Moreover, the study reveals that traditional gender roles and social pressure have consistently attempted to confine women to caregiving roles, discouraging their pursuit of autonomy and fulfillment in both personal and professional spheres.This article offers insight into the evolving dynamics of WLB and identifies "personal identity" as a neglected but significant determinant of it
