The authors articulate an ethical and theological basis for ethnographic research in faith communities. They interviewed nine ethnographers concluding that both researched and researcher are changed by the research act. They argue that knowing is connected, that mutuality is crucial, and that our efforts at interconnected knowing and mutuality are measured against God's will for a creation based on wholeness and justice. Ethnography is an opportunity for ministry which is educational and empowering
