Daniel M. Cobb's Say We Are Nations is an impressive collection of indigenous voices from all corners of North America arguing for their inherent rights of sovereignty, self-determination, and cultural integrity since 1887. The collection showcases the voices of many important but unrecognized indigenous leaders and activists of the past century and a quarter among articles and speeches made by more well-known actors of recent indigenous history. Thus, readers are introduced to figures such as Angela Russell (Crow) and Tillie Walker (Mandan-Hidatsa) nestled between Vine Deloria Jr. (Standing Rock Sioux) and John Trudell (Santee Dakota). Furthermore, in addition to American Indian voices, the text taps into the recent move toward more inclusive scholarly discussions of indigeneity. We hear from activists such as J. Kēhaulani Kauanui (Kanaka Maoli), Elizabeth Peratrovitch (Tlingit), and Roy Peratrovich (Tlingit) as the text moves chronologically, topically, and temporally across North America from 1887 to the present
