The scholars of nationalism have recognised that nationalist discourses often invoke magical events and frame national past in supernatural terms. This article explores the relationship between magic and nationalism in the contemporary world. The focus is on the inherent tensions between the ever‐ increasing rationalisation that shapes everyday life in modernity and the continuous popular quest for the magical enchantment. The paper aims to show how nationalist ideas and practices successfully navigate between magic and science
