This study is an ethnocartography of practices adopted and disseminated by the straightedges of São Paulo-young people who gained prominence in the Brazilian punk/hardcore music scene by adopting a lifestyle marked by abstinence from drugs (licit and illicit) and a vegetarian diet.By tracking the boys and girls in different places and situations, we can understand straightedge as a set of mutable subjective territories that are formed in certain situations, taking a more or less totalizing form. This view sees the creation of the straightedge modes of existence through the multiple connections they make in their daily life, discarding the identity model of representations, which homogenizes the practices and meanings attributed to them.To accomplish this collection of sensitive data, I have made use of the ethnocartographic method, which instead of interpreting or translating signs, asks about the emergence of structures of meaning. While ethnography allows the researcher to approach a group to get a better understanding of their practices, cartography helps to understand the movements of desire, revealing the lines of force and the intensities and the feelings they cross. Thus, we consider the junction of these traditions that are rarely included in the dialog to be crucial.By using this method it was possible to get a different reading of the straightedge lifestyle and practices that comprise it, understanding this phenomenon as a result of the clash between flow and representation that sustains social life
