Guinea Pig Sacrifices at El Yaral, a Prehispanic Village in the Extreme South of Peru The study of 112 naturally mummified guinea pigs found buried beneath the floors of four residences at El Yaral, a preHispanic village located in southern Peru, has documented ritual practices involving the sacrifice of these animals. Evidence concerning pre-and post-Conquest guinea pig utilization is presented which demonstrates the continuity of ritual practices and beliefs about this animal up to the present day
