This article examines the economic and cultural construction of Latin America as an educational site, using analysis of brochures advertising educational tours, fieldwork in an educational tour organization, and interviews with educational travelers in the United States and Mexico. Representations are manipulated to define Latin America as colorful, exotic, and pristine and U.S. travelers as omniscient, sophisticated, and invisible
