Le frontal (La Crouzade V) et le maxillaire (La Crouzade VI) d’un adulte ont été découverts par T. et P. Héléna au début du XXes. dans la grotte de La Crouzade (Aude). L’analyse anthropologique de ces vestiges démontre qu’ils appartiennent à Homo sapiens sapiens. Une révision de la stratigraphie et de l’industrie associée avait conduit à attribuer ce fossile à une phase ancienne de l’Aurignacien. Une datation C14 par accélérateur de particules (ERL 9415 - 30640 ± 640 BP) du maxillaire situe ce fossile dans l’intervalle 31 920-29 360 ans BP à deux déviations standard et le place parmi les plus anciens spécimens d’Homme moderne d’Europe, mais elle l’écarte sensiblement des phases les plus anciennes de l’Aurignacien
