Este trabajo pretende señalar la importancia de las relaciones del reino asturiano con Europa, así como indicar la posible existencia de actividad marítima en el Cantábrico, a través del estudio de las noticias políticas, culturales y económicas, a pesar de la parquedad de las fuentes y frente a su concepción tradicional como una tierra autárquica y aislada
