charts suggested that, if all the soundings were available, new and interesting features of submarine topography might be disclosed, features which would have a critical bearing on the theories of the origin of submarine valleys. Consequently, photostats of the smooth sheets for certain areas were obtained and contoured (including some for which the charts have not yet been issued); and the results, although incomplete, seem worth presenting in view of the present interest in this matter
