An analysis of two food taboos from the village of Bun in Papua New Guinea is provided to illustrate two main contentions: (1) that food taboos cannot be analyzed in a context divorced from the cultural meaning of food itself; and (2) that food taboos in at least this society are not best analyzed as a unitary system
